Does the 2018 Chevrolet Spark Truly Have the Spark

The quirky five-door hatchback from GM Korea, the Chevrolet Spark has always been about connected technology, eye popping colors, style, maneuvering agility and all this at an affordable price in the Chevy range. An all-out city car from all angles the Spark is available in three variants LS, 1LT and 2LT with all the versions sporting a 1.4L four-cylinder engine that is paired with a standard five-speed manual or a Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) that’s available on the trims that sport auto transmission. For the off-road enthusiasts, you have the Spark Activ trim with unique front and rear facias and skid plates and padding underneath and along the edges just in case you decide to hit the dirt track occasionally. The 2018 Chevrolet Spark has all this and some extra refreshments, and it doesn’t harm to take a look to understand if it still holds the spark.

According to the Spartanburg Chevrolet dealership, the Spark is available in a range of color choices like no other subcompact in its range. The sheer range of bold, eye-popping color options will leave you overwhelmed. The coupe like styling results from the body colored door handles for the front doors and the handle camouflaged in the rear door window frame for the second-row passenger area. The Activ trim sports fair enough if not so rugged skid plates, roof rails and a rocker panel with fender trim and 15-inch alloy wheels.

The cushy interiors with color coordinated upholstery will make you and your four other passengers feel right at home. Though the plastic lining seemingly compromises for the premium interior looks, the handy nooks and storage spaces more than make up for this. The standard My-Link seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system keep things on track and in your control and the OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot will allow upto seven devices to connect if required. Heated leatherette seats are available as an option. The back seats fold over to reveal an enormous 27.2 cubic feet of boot space for your road trips.

Engine& Performance

All the trims, LS, 1LT and 2LT come with a standard 1.4L ECOTEC® DOHC 4-cylinder Multiport Fuel Injection (MFI) engine which delivers 98 horsepower and 94 lb-ft of torque. The engine and CVT on the Automatics are connected to form the front wheel drive which delivers moderate power, but the light profile of the vehicle insures sufficient acceleration for most needs. The Spark being made for city conditions the 0-60 in 10 seconds and not 6 wont matter much and the MacPherson strut front and torsion-beam rear suspension give you a comfortable ride.

The Spark has an extensive range of standard and available safety features. As informed by the Spartanburg Chevrolet dealer, the 10 Standard Air Bags and a High Strength Steel Safety Cage is a definite plus. Prevention is better than cure they say – The Standard rear vision camera, Available Rear Park Assist, Available Forward Collision Alert and Available Lane Departure Warning all are meant to prevent any untoward events.

The Verdict

With all these, the 2018 Chevrolet Spark definitely seems to have the spark.
